Defects. There shall be no defects when magnetic particle inspected over the entire area of the hook in accordance with ASTM A 275. A defect is defined as a linear indication revealed by magnetic particle inspection that is greater than 0.125-inch long and whose length is equal to, or greater than, three times its width.
Rated capacity. The hooks, when used in various material handling operations in lifting and moving cargo, shall not be utilized with loads greater than the rated capacity in table I.
Tested capacity. The hooks shall lift and hold a load equal to not less than two times thl~ rated capacity of the hook. Tests and examination shall be in accordance with ANSI B30.10.
Hook-latch assembly. “The latch assembly shall be manufactured of noncorrosive metal or have an all-weather anticorrosive finish. The latch assembly shall bridge the throat opening in the closed position, and retain loose slings or other hoisting devices under slack conditions. Unlocking the latch may be accomplished manually or by other methods
Identification marking. Each hook shall be permanently and legibly marked with the rated capacity in short tons.
Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify and maintain substantiating evidence that the product offered meets the characteristics of this Commercial Item Description, and that the product conforms to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided they fall within specified tolerances using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of FED-STD-376, and all other requirements of this Commercial Item Description are met.
If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request shall be made to the contracting officer to determine of the product is acceptable.
The contracting officer has the option of accepting or rejecting the product.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practical.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling and marking. The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
